Pediatrics Department

Pediatrics department, municipal key department, founded in 1952 for 69 years. It is the first batch of Zhejiang province regional special disease center(Pediatric Center of the Northern Region of Zhejiang Province), national standardized training base for pediatric residents，Hangzhou medical key discipline.

Department of pediatrics has pediatric clinic, pediatric emergency room, child development & behavior clinic, pediatric inpatient wards, children asthma and allergic disease diagnostic and therapeutic center, neonatal intensive care unit, etc. General pediatric division has 65 ordinary beds, 6 pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) beds, 2 pediatric EEG & electrophysiology monitoring beds. Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) has 50 beds. Hospitalized patients per year has approximately above 5000 cases, pediatric clinic and emergency patients per year has approximately above 430,000 cases.

Department of pediatrics has 54 pediatricians(include 12 chief pediatricians, 18 associate chief pediatricians), 79 nurses(include 2 associate chief nurses, 7 nurses-in-charge). The pediatric subspecialties include pulmonology, neurology and electrophysiology, neonatology, gastroenterology, vasculocardiology, nephrology, endocrinology, hematology and oncology, emergency & intensive care medicine, child health care center, medical genetics and etc. Our department has been holding the leading position at the Northern Region of Zhejiang Province.

There are 1 doctor holding the chairman of committee in Pediatrics Society of Hangzhou Medicine Association and 4 doctors holding the position of standing committee in Pediatrics Society of Zhejiang Medical Association in our department of pediatrics.

The area of the department is about 160 square meters, with blood disposal room, blood storage room, blood-issuing room, blood group serology laboratory, data archive room, duty room, office and demonstration classroom. The department is well equipped with modern medical instrumentation and equipment, such as imported automatic blood matching system, low temperature and ultra-low temperature refrigerator for blood storage, platelet shock preservation box, plasma melting system, cold chain monitoring system, clinical blood transfusion management system, etc. Staff in the department have established microcolumn gel cross matching technology, prenatal and postnatal diagnosis of neonatal hemolytic disease, irregular antibody screening and identification, direct and indirect anti-human globulin test, antibody titer detection, difficult cross matching technology, identification of rare blood group, storage autotransfusion technology, etc. Clinical supply of blood components include: suspended red blood cells, leucocyte suspended red blood cells, washed red blood cells, fresh frozen plasma, frozen plasma, apheresis platelets, cryoprecipitate coagulation factor, Rh(D) negative blood, etc. 

The director of the department is a member of the Blood Management Branch of The Chinese Society of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia, the deputy director of the Clinical Blood Transfusion Branch of the Zhejiang Medical Association, the standing director of the Blood Transfusion Association of Zhejiang Province, the member of the clinical Blood Transfusion Committee and the expert Committee, and the standing deputy director of the Clinical Blood Quality Management and Control Center of Hangzhou. In recent years, the staff members of the Department has presided three scientific research projects on clinical blood use management and published over ten papers in core journals.
